Midday Sportswrap


It's been an eventful day in the world of sport and lots of news coming from the cricket world.

Australian opener, Matthew Hayden, has been dropped from the ODI squads to play the Proteas. Hayden has been in poor form lately, scoring just 149 runs this test summer at an averge of just over 16.

The England Cricket Board has accepted "with regret" the resignation of captain Kevin Pietersen. The South-African born captain gave the ECB an ultimatum, asking them to fire coach Peter Moores or else he goes. Pietersen and Moores' relationship turned sour after Michael Vaughan was left out of the test squad to tour the West Indies later this month. Moores has since been sacked by the ECB.

Manchester United don't seem too fussed by their shock loss to Derby in the Carling Cup last night. The Red Devils went down 1 - 0 in the semi-final first leg but fans can expect a vicious backlash from United in t! he return leg at Old Trafford.

And Sundowns have put defender Mbulelo "OJ" Mabizelo on transfer. The Bafana Bafana star has been in some poor form lately and to add to that he's been absent from a few of the team's training sessions and got arrested for drunk driving in Pietermaritzburg.
